Glasgow and Beyond - Glasgow And Beyond takes you on a series of journeys, one each to the north, south, east and west of the city. These take you as far as Turnberry and Culzean Castle in Ayrshire; Glen Coe: Inveraray; Culross; and the Trossachs. In between these excursions outwith the city, you are shown the glories of Glasgow itself, with features on architects Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Alexander “Greek” Thompson; on the wealth of art on view in Glasgow, and on eating, drinking and shopping in the city.
Given to the People (peertube) - Given To The People is a study of the Pollok Free State. The Free State was initiated by the actions of local resident, Colin Macleod, who began a tree top protest against the building of the M77 motorway through public woodlands in Pollok, Glasgow, in the early 1990s.

Round Ma Bit: The Gallowgate Twins (2013) (youtube) - The Whitevale and Bluevale Towers, otherwise known as the Gallowgate Twins, are the tallest buildings in Scotland. Hundreds of people once called them home. Due to years of neglect, they are no longer fit for human habitation and are now almost completely empty.

Based in Glasgow, the GCPH research has a focus on the particular characteristics of this city, but we believe that our approaches and learning will have implications for other cities and regions.

High Rise and Fall, Glasgow, Gorbals documentary (1993) (youtube) - Documentary about Queen Elizabeth Square, Sir Basil Spence's block of Brutalist style flats built to replace the Gorbal's tenements in Glasgow during the 1960's. His vision was based on architect Le Corbusier's ideas and aspired to transforming the Gorbals in to a Modernist Utopia.The film is the life and times of one building told by some of the people involved in it's history. The block was dynamited in 1993 amidst controversy and the death of a spectator.
Mungo's Medals (1961) (youtube) - An illustration of the efforts made to rehouse families from sub-standard tenement flats in Glasgow, and to alleviate the housing shortage in the city.
The Secret History of Our Street Duke Street, Glasgow (BBC) (youtube) - Duke Street is Britain's longest street, running from Glasgow city centre through the heart of Glasgow's East End. Elegant Victorian tenement blocks line the road to the south of Duke Street. Yet just 40 years ago, those tenements were under threat. The Storm That Saved A City (2017) - On 15 January 1968, thousands of homes were damaged when 100-miles-an-hour winds tore through the central belt. Twenty people lost their lives amid devastating scenes. But the storm shook up Scotland's biggest city in another way, too. It inspired a rethink about Glasgow's tenements.

A revealing and uplifting portrait of a community undergoing massive change in challenging times, Sighthill Stories is an intimate and poignant film following the fortunes of a few children who in the face of adversity reveal admirable optimism and resilience.

Let Glasgow Flourish - This silent film is called Let Glasgow Flourish and includes some film of the campaign to safe council houses within the Merrylee District. It is from about 1951.
1930s
Glasgow Gets To Work (1935) - Travel back in time to 1935 and learn about Glasgow's transport network with the help of handy intertitles and maps. Steam trains puff through St Enoch’s Station, trams and buses cart crowds of fans to Hampden Park for the Scottish Cup final, and ferries ferry horses and carts across the Clyde.

1920s
Municipal Buildings (1922) - Unsurprisingly in a city infamous for its slums, this “Corporation of Glasgow Official Film” highlights their work in rehousing a 1920s population that was bulging at the seams. Unfortunately, the tour of the luxurious marbled City Chambers and the cattle herding at Merklands Cattle Wharf mark an awkward comparison with the coverage of the new housing schemes - a drop in the ocean of what was required.
The Clyde - Cranhill Film Project - A film full of snippets of various places around Glasgow. This film was made by the Cranhill Film Project and has a few old folk songs as well.
KH-4 (1969) (nls) - A strange film about a Glasgow artist (played by a young Bill Forsyth) who uses the city as a source of inspiration. As he wanders the streets, the ongoing demolition process causes a disintegration of his ideas which are subsequently expressed in a depressing canvas. (1960s)
Crime
Little Criminals - A feature biopic by film-maker David Graham Scott about the Glasgow junk scene. Shooting over much of 1999, Scott follows a disparate group of heroin-addicted shoplifters and creates a vivid insight into this strange and sordid subculture. The scams to finance their addictions and the sheer monotony of the injecting rituals are unflinchingly portrayed throughout the film.
The Dirty Digger (BBC 2007) (alt link, alt link 2) - I join a controversial Glasgow magazine, The Digger, as it's court photographer naming and shaming gangsters, petty criminals and paedophiles. The ethics of the paper and the role of vigilante journalism are questioned in this gritty documentary.
