The Gait
From Glasgow
Music venue under development on the site of the City Halls and Fruitmarket.
Estimated completion date has been delayed from October 2005 until January 2006.
Redevelopment work on The Gait started in January 2004 at a total cost of £13 million. The project has carefully retained the unique features of both venues including the superb acoustics of The City Halls and the listed ironmongery and signage in The Old Fruitmarket.
The Gait will be the permanent performing, broadcasting and administrative base of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra whose first concert in their new home marks the opening of the venue in January 2006. The Gait is also the regular performance space of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in Glasgow. The Scottish Music Centre will be based at the front of the building on Candleriggs.
