The Empire Theatre

Built by Frank Matcham on the site of The Gaiety Theatre at the corner of West Nile Street and Sauchiehall Street (the address is recorded as 31-35 Sauchiehall Street).
It opened in 1897 and had a seated capacity of 1676, plus 182 standing. It was closed in 1930, englarged and refurbished it extended to the corner of Renfield Street, reopening in 1931.
The theatre closed at the end of March 1963 and was subsequently demolished.
