The Charing Cross Tower Hotel
From Glasgow
Later became Premier Lodge and is now occupied by the Premier Travel Inn (Charing Cross).
The building, an office block, after lying derelict for nine years was converted into a 282 bedroom, three star hotel and opened in March 1995.
It was intially operated under the management of the YMCA, this arrangement was terminated in October 1995 and Tower Hotels Group took over direct management and started the process of moving the hotel upmarket.and Westermoreland (who owned the building). At this time the hotel was owned by Westmoreland.
Original plans were to convert the building to student accommodation for use by Strathclyde University but this fell through after a rental deal collapsed. Novotel also expressed an interest in converting the property but this was ultimately abandoned.
