The club began in 1990 in the Hollywood Studios building at 9 Brown Street. In 1995 in moved to its current location on Union Street.
The Cathouse was the first business opened by Donald MacLeod, owner of Cathouse Promotions Limited. The venue was leased until 2005 when it was bought by CPL who undertook heavy refurbishments over the summer.
- First club in Britain to host a dedicated rock night for under 18s.
At it's current location in Union Street, the building was previously home to numerous nightclubs, including: Heaven, Industria, Deja Vu and Viva.
