The M8 is the main road link between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Built in several stages with the main section through the city opened by 1972.
The M8 is partly underground, it passes through the St. George's Tunnel at Charing Cross, and partly overground it crosses the River Clyde via the Kingston Bridge.
Starts at Edinburgh (A720), finishes at Greenock (A8). Passes Glasgow and Paisley. Length: 61 miles. Terminates: M9, M77, M80. Spurs: M898. Meets: M7.
A 4.5 metre tall galvanised steel Clydesdale horse named The Heavy Horse is sited by the motorway at Easterhouse, sculpted by Andy Scott, unveiled in 1997.
