Founded in 1849 by Hugh Fraser and James Arthur. This is the first store of the Fraser group, it was opened originally as a small drapery shop.
The building was previously home to Messrs, Wylie & Lochhead which the company acquired in 1957, expanding into their store and warehouse on Buchanan Street shortly after.
