Main Range of glasshouses

The Glasgow Botanic Gardens is a large public park covering 28 acres (11 hectares) and consists of 12 conservatories containing a range of plants from cacti to tropical orchids. The most notable of the 12 is the Kibble Palace.

The gardens were created on ground extending to 21.5 acres which was feued from Campbell of Blythswood in 1817 and was officially opened in 1832. Bought by the , and run by the Royal Botanic Institution of Glasgow (founded by Thomas Hopkirk), and were intended to supply specimens to the University of Glasgow's botany and medical departments.

What was called the Old Botanic Gardens was situated on the north side of Dumbarton Road, west of Claremont Street and are now built over.

The park is open from 7am to dusk, the visitor centre from 11am - 4pm and the glasses houses 10am - 4:45pm during summer and 10am - 4:15pm in the winter.

Concerts and events are often held in the park.

Glasgow City Council in conjuction with the Park Ranger Service conducts tours of the gardens on Saturdays and Sundays at 2:30pm, runs April until September.
