Previously known as The Regal. In 1967 the building changed its name to ABC1. At the same time a large extension housing a second screen was erected alongside, named the ABC2.

In 1985 ABC sold the complex to the Cannon group and the cinema was renamed Cannon. Cannon were taken over by Pathe Communications which then aquired MGM and, in 1991, the cinema was renamed MGM Cinemas. In 1995, Virgin bought the chain from MGM and then sold the non-multiplexes including Sauchiehall Street to Cinven, a venture capital company, who renamed their chain ABC, having aquired the historic brand.

ABC1

Later to be known simply as Screen 1. This was subdivided in 1979 to form four screens seating 980, 306, 206 and 192. The largest screen here used the full original balcony.

ABC2

This had 922 seats on a single level, with a deeply curved screen and full 70mm facilities. It was closed on the 29th of October 1998. Its ground floor is now occupied by Burger King, Chukoku and Yate's. The first floor is now home to Jumpin Jaks.

Now

The remaining screens were closed on the 14th of October 1999. After a gap of two years, the building was extended further toward Scott Street and converted into what is now the Sports Cafe. The remaining but unused foyer was restored circa 2004 and the interior renovated for the opening of the ABC nightclub.
