From Glasgow

Previous incarnations as The George, The Norwood Cinema, The Norwood Ballroom. Now occupied by The Q Club snooker hall at 101 St. George's Road.

It was at one point owned by eccentric Glasgow-based cinema-owner A.E. Pickard (although Pickard himself was an Englishman). He famously opened the cinema by running across the road with a battering ram, and barging through the doors. The canopy on the front of the cinema was a landmark for a spell due to a large model of the Forth Bridge erected on top of it. Became part of the ABC chain in December 1955. Closed in September 1975 after which it became an Asian cinema called Dreamland.
